ANAS ABBAS

Participatory Performance
Location: Lawrence Garden
Duration: 15 Mins

Anas Abbas borrowing methods from relational aesthetics performed a participatory performance where he acted as an instigator for impromptu public interaction. Abbas tapped into the already performative aspect of the park Bagh-e-Jinnah, a common site for young boys in Lahore to take staged photographs of each other. He posed in front of a camera set on a tripod in various parts of the park, and shortly thereafter several boys came to advise him on how best to photograph himself, posed with him and asked him to take their own pictures. Through the imitation of their own performative actions in the park, Abbas prompted these boys to engage in and critique his own performance.
