Location: Walled City
Duration: 10 Mins

Talal Jamil was concerned with public encounters and the assumptions, calculations, distances, or ideas that we bring about one another. Jamil came to the inner city of Lahore in a suit and tie and asked the residents for a job. This performance spoke directly to the context and format of the workshop of how one interacts with the residents of the Walled City. Jamil tapped into the spontaneity of such an interaction, looking to see what sort of possible barriers exist, how imagined they are and how real; how our appearances, tones of voice, language, and dispositions shape them, and how possible it may be to break away from them, if at all.
